Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) has asked senior officials to make a comprehensive agriculture policy for making agriculture profitable. This policy will be finalised once the KCR gets inputs from farmers by clusters and groups like Rythu Bandhu Samithis.
The chief minister in a meeting with department officials said, “The government should decide on which crops the farmers should cultivate. Planning should be done in such a way that crops should be cultivated based on the food needs of people in the state & the crops, which are in demand in the markets in other regions.”
He added, for improving the lot of the farmers in the state, where agriculture is a main occupation, the state should play a pro-active role to suggest alternative crops to farmers, so that they get better support price & there is no glut in the mandis. The Agriculture department must prepare an inventory and record details on the assets, buildings of the department & other such relevant information.”
He mentioned, “Collect proper information from farmers in a format. Very soon I will discuss about the comprehensive agriculture policy through a video-conference.”
It is to be noted that, Agriculture Minister Niranjan Reddy, Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar, were among those who attended the meeting with KCR. It will not be wrong to say that the new agriculture policy will soon be put in place as the state is fast becoming a major food producer in the country.
